Abstract

1,044,574. Securing squirrel cage windings. LANCASHIRE DYNAMO & CRYPTO Ltd. April 20, 1965 [April 17, 1964], No. 16063/64. Heading H2A. The conducting bars 1 of a rotary electric machine armature cage winding are maintained in tight engagement with their accommodating slots 2 by deformable resilient elements 3 interposed between the bars and the slot walls. The element 3 shown is a longitudinally split spring steel tube housed in complementary recesses 4, 5 such that the tube is compressed, and the tube is either a single length or a number of short lengthwise spaced pieces. In other embodiments the element is a corrugated strip, an oval tube, or of V or U cross-section. The winding may be the secondary of a squirrel cage induction motor or generator, the starting winding of a self-starting synchronous generator, or the damping winding of a synchronous generator.
