Abstract

In a nuclear reactor power plant the coolant is circulated through the reactor and a heat exchanger subject to control by a valve which is adjusted automatically in accordance with neutron flux, the desired load, the actual coolant flow rate and the reactor coolant outlet temperature. Control rods are adjusted in correspondence with the neutron flux and coolant temperature. Integral and differential functions are incorporated into the controls and a safety temperature signal effects adjustment of the control rods when the coolant temperature rises above a selected value. In a modification, the coolant flow is adjusted by control of the coolant pumping device.
