Abstract
1,040,397. Shearing. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 27, 1964 [Aug. 30, 1963], No. 34380/63. Heading B3W. In a shear in which the upper blade 12 clamps the workpiece and the lower blade is raised to make the cut, there is provided a limit switch 13 which stops the upward movement of the upper blade, after the cut, when it is clear of the workpiece by a predetermined distance. The switch 13 is mounted on a plate 14 which can slide stiffly relative to the machine frame, and which projects into an aperture 20 in the upper blade. As the upper blade moves down the plate 14 is also moved down by contact with the edge 26 of the aperture. On the return stroke of the blade 12 the plate 14 remains stationary and a striker arm 24 attached to the blade operates the switch 13 to stop the blade just as the edge 28 of the aperture 20 contacts the edge 30 of the plate 14. A push button control is provided to override the limit switch 13 if required.
