Abstract

After knitting a French welt on a double bed flat machine, all the stitches are transferred to one of the two beds 1, 2 of the machine, the tension comb 14 is released and the stitches are transferred to the points 12a or 12c of a magazine comb. The machine may have loop transfer type needles 3 which co-operate with straight points 12a or the points 12c may be recessed and eye letted to receive conventional needle points. The butts of the needles slide in grooves 6a in bars 6 driven by a carriage 4 and having ends supported by a member 7 rigid with a rod 5, a lost-motion being provided between bars 6 and carriage 4 and members 7. Cams 9 on each bar 6 are engaged by retractable followers 13. The needles of the front bed are raised simultaneously by bars 6 so that the points 12a or 12c will engage the needles 3. A lock type revolution counter operates followers 13 through a bar 16 and comb 14 by cams 18.
