Abstract

1, 036, 000. Blood sampling apparatus. S. & R.J. EVERETT & CO., Ltd. Oct. 15, 1964 [July 15, 1963], No. 27940/63. Heading A5R. A device for taking blood samples and of the kind comprizing an evacuated container 9 closed with a puncturable bung 7 and provided with a hollow hypodermic needle 18 able to be moved to cause the puncture, is characterized in that the bung is secured to a tubular member 12 which surrounds the needle with clearance, and a hub member 15 in which the needle is secured may be screwed on the tubular member to cause the needle to pierce the bung. The container 9 is of glass or polystyrene and may contain a small quantity of an anti-coagulant. The member 12 is formed with an external screw-thread formation 20 which mates with a groove on the hub 15. The bung 7 is of rubber and reseals itself when the needle has been withdrawn. In a modification, a pin on the member 12 screws into a helical slot formed in the hub 15. A cap covers the needle prior to use and a clip around the neck 32 prevents unwanted displacement of the hub and needle.
