Abstract

In the production of a coherent, zero-twist, multifilament synthetic yarn, a finish mixture e.g. an aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid, comprising at least 60% of a volatile inert liquid e.g. water, low molecular weight alcohol, ester, ether, or ketone, or mixture of water and ethanol, and from 0.25 to 5% by weight of a film-forming polymetric material e.g. ureaformaldehyde resin, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylate or polymethacrylate, is applied to an undrawn, twistless multifilament. The yarn is immediately drawn to the required orientation before the volatile liquid evaporates, heated to evaporated residual volatile liquid and dry the finish coating, and wound into a package without twisting.
