Abstract
1, 034, 468. Filtering gases; cyclone separators. PROVENAIR Ltd. April 24, 1964 [Sept. 6, 1963], No. 35361/63. Headings B1T and B2P. Apparatus for filtering dust from gas or air comprises a chamber 1 closed by a top plate 2 and having a tangential gas entry 8. Fabric filter sleeves 20 supported by the plate 2 open into a chamber 4 connected to a gas outlet pipe 9. The air is caused to circulate by a suction fan connected in the pipe 9 or by a pressure fan connected in the entry 8. The heavier dust particles are removed cyclonically due to the tangential entry 8 and are deposited in the hopper 5, the finer particles being deposited on the sleeves 20. The sleeves are cleaned sequentially by a reverse air flow derived from a centrifugal fan 10 mounted on a shaft 11 driven by a motor 13. The fan 10 draws in air from the chamber 4 and expels it through nozzles 18 of a manifold 17 forming the fan casing 15. The casing 15 is mounted on the shaft 11 by bearings 16 and the reaction of the air passing to the nozzles causes the casing to rotate so that cleaning blasts of air are supplied to each one of the sleeves in turn. As shown, the sleeves are arranged on two circles and internally supported by wire cages 22, the cleaning air blasts causing the sleeves to be momentarily expanded and contracted to augment the cleaning effect. In a modification, the casing 15 is not rotated by the reaction of the air passage but by a motor 26 driving the casing through gearing 23, 24. The sides of the hopper 5 are swept by a pair of flexible members 27, e.g. chains, connected to the ends of an arm 28 rotatable on a shaft 29 so as to dislodge accumulated dust. The arm may have vanes 31 whereby it is rotated by the air from the entry 8; alternatively, the arm may be rotated by the motor 13. In another arrangement (not shown) the apparatus is disposed horizontally.
