A dust collecting apparatus, for separating dust and similar particulate matter from a gas, comprising upper discharge chamber means, intermediate filter bag or chamber chamber means and lower hopper means, first partition means provided within said drive chamber means for dividing it into a plurality of separate compartments, second partition means, provided within said intermediate filter bag chamber and similarly dividing said filter bag chamber means in a plurality of filter bag chamber compartments including said intermediate filter bag chamber means filter means positioned in the same dirty gas inlet means for passing dirty gas to said filter chamber means and through said filtering means whereby contaminants are collected on the respective surfaces of said filtering means, and clean gas outlet means, to pass the gas, as it is cleaned, by said filter means, to said outlet chamber means and out of them, means to admit cleaning gas to said cleaning means drive chamber, flow restriction means, for restricting the flow of cleaned gas through said clean gas outlet means and control means for actuating said flow restriction means, for interrupting the flow of cleaned gas through said impulse chamber means and substantially at the same time as said means act to emit cleaning gas, whereby a pulse of cleaning gas will be emitted by them to said impulse chamber means, the impulse of which will be transmitted to said means filter to dislodge the dust collected from the surface of the same.
