Abstract
1,033,565. Pulse generating circuits. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 6, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961], No. 44857/61. Heading H3P. In a pulse generator the energy stored in an inductor L is used to charge a pulse forming network PFN via a diode D, the PFN being discharged via a load R by means of a thyratron or ignitron S. Valve V is made conductive during time T (Fig. 2) so that a current is built up in inductor L. At time A, valve V is cut off, by means not shown, so that the energy stored in inductor L charges the PFN via diode D. The PFN is discharged at time a by firing the thyratron or ignitron S so that a rectangular pulse is generated in load R. Valve V may be made conductive at this time or at a later time b. The amplitude of output pulse may be varied by controlling the duration of the conducting period of valve V. In the event of switching device S failing to de-ionize, the circuit may be shut down by cutting off valve V.
