Abstract

Tablets containing at least 90% total dry weight of chloral betaine are prepared by mixing the said agent with acacia or polyvinylpyrrolidone as a binder, granulating this mixture with aqueous gelatine solution, adjusting the free moisture in the granules to a weight percent of 0. 6 to 1. 1%, and compressing into tablets while maintaining this moisture content. Tabletting lubricants such as stearic acid, talc, high molecular weight polyethylene glycols, fatty glycerides and other edible oils, magnesium stearate, or mineral oil may be added to the granules before compressing. The tablets may be coated, with film formers such as ethyl-, methyl-, or hydroxypropylmethyl-cellulose, cellulose acetate phthalate, polyethylene glycols, shellac or alginic acid derivatives, or with sugar coatings or compression coatings.
