Abstract
A zirconium-bearing frit, which also contains the oxides of B, Al, Si, an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal, is made by heating zirconium silicate and the other ingredients to at least 1500 DEG C., when all or almost all of the Zr-containing constituents dissolve in the other constituents, and then quenching the mixture. An electric furnace may be used. Exemplified temperatures are 1500-1700 DEG C. The frit may be used in a ceramic glaze.
