[Also in Divisions B5, B6 and G4] In a machine which dispenses pieces of towel cut from a length, one piece being dispensed for each actuation of a control button (or insertion of a coin if the machine is coin freed), each piece is rolled and wrapped in polyethylene film. As seen in Fig. 2, an endless band conveyer 73 takes a severed piece of towel which lies in suspense beneath a sterilizing lamp 75, passes the piece beneath spray nozzles for wetting with hot or cold water if this is desired, and is then rolled into a cylinder by the overlying endless band 81 into which it is wedged. When completely rolled the towel is carried beyond the end of conveyer 73, the band 81 being lifted out of the way by a cam 83. Actuation of cam 83 actuates a switch 85 to release compressed air from a bottle 87 to produce a perfume spray from bottle 89. The rolled towel passes through this spray as it precipitates into the waiting jaws 100 and 108 of a wrapping device. As best seen in Fig. 11, the wrapping device has a drum 91 of foil 27 which is delivered by rollers 98 and 99 to hang in a loop in the jaws 100 and 108. With the roll of towel received the jaws close as shown in Fig. 13 to sever the foil with cutters 115 and 117 and to seam the ends of the foil together by pressing them between a rubber bar 118 and a heated bar 103. When the jaw 108 drops, the wrapped towel is ejected by a roller 120 mounted on the fixed jaw 100 as shown in Fig. 14. The wrapping foil may be fed from the side as shown in Fig. 15, the foil being bent into a channel section as it is propelled up a guideway 96a. Seaming takes place as before but the cutters are placed at the side of the jaws. Instead of cranking the jaw 108 through a rotating arm and linkage 112 to 114 as shown in Fig. 11, the jaw is swung by the cam 235 in the arrangement of Fig. 15. Instead of driving the rolled towel off the end of the conveyer 73, the conveyer can be tilted downwardly to precipitate the roll into the jaws of the wrapping device. If the supply of foil runs out a limit switch 93-95 stops the machine.
