Abstract

1,032,063. Discharge lamps. KABUSHIKI KAISHA MITACHI SEISAKUSHO. March 26, 1963 [March 29, 1963], No. 11965/63. Heading H1D. A hollow cathode discharge lamp for use with absorption type spectrophotometers comprises a cathode 5 in the form of a hollow metal cylinder 6 closely surrounded by a quartz or ceramic cylinder 7, the assembly being placed in a glass envelope 1 and supported therein by a lead wire 9, the envelop being provided with a quartz window 2 through which passes the light emitted from the discharge. The envelope is filled with argon at a pressure of 1À5 mm. mercury and an anode 4 is offset from the centre line of the envelope. A mica ring 10 is provided to prevent a short-circuit occurring due to the sputtering which accompanies the discharge.
