Abstract

1,032,043. Plastics bags. ABBOTT LABORATORIES. March 8, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9417/63. Heading B8K. [Also in Division A5] A bag 8 adapted to contain liquid, e.g. blood, comprises two flexible bonded sheets, e.g. made from polyvinyl chloride, an outlet 16, and a transverse stiffening tab 10 secured to a permanently closed upper end of the bag body. At least one of the sheets is transparent and has graduations 24 thereon. The tab which includes an aperture 29, comprises two portions 26, 27 bonded to the upper edge 21a of the bag body, which is scalloped or slit to prevent the upper part of the bag warping. The bag is filled through a conduit 15, and when filled that conduit is sealed. Liquid is also dispensed from the bag via the conduit. In further embodiments the tab may comprise a single portion bonded between the flexible sheets, or to one side of the flexible sheets. The tab may also be perforated to form two portions, one of which is adapted to bear suitable indicia. Alternatively, the tab may be secured to the bag body. by stitching or stapling. Materials for the tab include cardboard, plastics, or metals.
