Abstract

1,031,950. Hypodermic syringes. DON BAXTER Inc. Oct. 26, 1964, No. 43629/64. Heading A5R. A hypodermic syringe has a thermoplastic barrel and a plunger having a cruciform crosssection, a plunger sealing tip 13 being received on or connected to a necked-down portion 28 of the plunger. The syringe barrel 11 and the plunger sealing tip 13 are made of polypropylene or polyethylene. The tip 13 has a forward face conforming approximately to the forward end of the barrel bore and a cylindrical sealing face 35. The rear of the tip is spaced from the barrel but has radial guide wings 36, 37. The tip either has a recess for receiving the conical nose 26 of the plunger 22 or is integral with the plunger (Fig. 6 not shown). The plunger comprises four radial ribs connected to the plunger nose or the plunger sealing tip and at the other end to a finger pressure disc 23. The syringe has a needle protector (not shown). The sealing face of the sealing tip is lubricated by a fluorocarbon lubricant containing trifluorochlasethylene polymers. The barrel wall is . 015 to 040 inches thick. The bore of the barrel tapers towards its forward end, differing in diameter by 001 to .003 inches between its ends. The diameter of the plunger exceeds the diameter of the bore by .001 to . 008 inches.
