Abstract
A deoxidizing, inocculating, slag reducing and/or alloying ferrosilicon additive for steel or cast iron consists of granulated ferrosilicon particles containing 25-90% silicon having a smooth, round, preferably globular, surface hardened by chilling. The particles may be produced from a melt by atomization, spraying or granulating on a disc or groove, or ground ferrosilicon may be given the appropriate surface by superficial heating followed by chilling.
