Abstract
1,031,035. Packagings providing protection from solar radiation. HUILERIES ANTONIN ROUX ET SAVONNERIES J. B. PAUL. March 11, 1963 [Feb. 15, 1963 (2)], No. 9630/63. Headings B8C and B8D. A transparent plastics receptacle for edible oil has a gas-impervious coating or cover incorporating a colouring material which is opaque to ultra-violet radiation, and preferably also to visible radiations up to wavelengths of 5000 Š. The gas-impervious coating may be sprayed on to the receptacle, or the receptacle may be immersed in a suitable material, or alternatively the cover may be formed by a bag (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) or sleeve within which the receptacle is sealed. The colouring material may be subsequently sprayed on to the receptacle or bag. The outer bag may be moulded closely about the receptacle or may receive it loosely. An anti-oxidant may be included in the coating or cover. The coating may be added in the form of a solution in water or in an organic solvent. The receptacle may be a bottle formed of polyethylene and the surrounding bag may be of cellulose acetate which may be lined on one or both surfaces with a film based on vinyl or vinylidene chloride. The outer cover may be secured by adhesive or by heat sealing. The Specification gives examples of suitable colouring materials opaque to ultraviolet radiation, of suitable antioxidants. The gas-impermeable coating, with or without the antioxidant and the colouring material may be applied to the receptacle in the form of a paste.
