Abstract

1,030,440. Clamps. MITCHENALL BROS. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963], No. 42635/ 63. Heading E2B. A clamp for attaching fittings to motor cycle frames and other structures comprises a substantially U-shaped saddle piece 1, at least one cam 3 disposed between the limbs of said saddle piece, said cam(s) being rotatable to vary the space between the cam(s) and saddle piece head the said cam(s) being arranged for contact with a part embraced by said saddle piece whereby a clamping rib can be exerted on said part between the cam(s) and the saddle piece head, means for maintaining said cam(s) in a said position, and a bracket or like support extending from said saddle piece for supporting an article or articles from the clamp. In the construction shown two cams are used and these are spaced by a piece 4 and are mounted on a bolt 2 having screw threaded portions projecting from each side of the saddle piece and fitted with nuts 5, the bolt and nuts constituting the means for maintaining the cams in a set position by exerting inward pressure on the limbs of the saddle piece. Each cam is an eccentrically mounted circular block and each is provided with a radial bore for receiving a tommy bar for turning it. As shown the support 9 is attached to the head of the saddle piece and includes a cross-bar 10 which when the clamp is attached to a longitudinal frame member A of a motor cycle supports leg shields, a fairing or a windscreen. Openings are provided in the limbs of the saddle piece to receive stubs C on the frame member A. When a single cam is substituted for the pair of cams it can be of waisted curvilinear form to engage a member A of cylindrical form.
