Abstract

Nitrobenzenesulphonic acids, optionally substituted by alkyl, halogen, nitro, hydroxy, carboxyl, acyl or sulpho, are isolated from a reaction mixture obtained by nitration or sulphonation, by treatment with isorganic K salt in presence of aqueous H2SO4, the product being precipitated as its K salt. Examples describe the isolation of the K salts of 2 (and 4)-nitrochlorobenzene-4(2)-sulphonic acids, 2 (and 4)-nitrotoluene-4(2)-sulphonic acids and nitrobenzenesulphonic acid.
