Abstract

1,025,224. Control of D.C. motors. YALE & TOWNE Inc. March 13, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 9901/63. Heading H2J. A battery-operated truck is operated at a first speed by connecting field windings 11, 12, resistor 15, and armature 10 in series across batteries 13, 14, which are in parallel with each other. A slightly higher speed is obtained by short-circuiting resistor 15. A third higher speed is afforded by re-inserting resistor 15 and connecting the batteries in series, rectifiers 18, 19 preventing short-circuiting of the batteries during the change-over. The resistor 15 is again short-circuited. A fifth speed is obtained by re-inserting the resistor 15, short-circuiting field winding 11, and then connecting the field windings in parallel with each other. For operation at a sixth speed, the resistor 15 is again short-circuited. The direction of operation of the traction motor may be reversed, by reversing the field excitation. The various contacts in the control circuit may be operated from a master controller.
