Abstract

1,024,615. Lap winding apparatus. KUREHA SPINNING CO Ltd & FUJI IRON WORKS CO Ltd. Feb. 6, 1963 [Feb. 16, 1962 (2); May 29, 1962 (2); June 6, 19621 No. 4888/63. Headings D1F and D1N. A lap winding machine of the kind having lap side plates mounted on rack-bearing arms that flank lap driving rollers is provided with an automatic doffing arrangement including an empty spool supply means adopted to push a full lap off the lap drive rollers and supply a fresh spool. Laps are wound on a spool P between plates 45 carried by shafts 43 mounted on arms 2 provided with racks 3 at their lower ends. Each shaft 43 is axially slidable under the influence of pistons 46, 47 working in fluid pressure cylinders 48, 49 so as to release or clamp a spool P. Drive is transmitted to the spool by fluted lap driving rollers and when a required amount of lap has been wound a switch is automatically closed to reverse the fluid pressure acting on arms 2 . As the arms 2 approach their highest position, another switch is closed and an empty spool conveying device 20 is swung downwardly to push the lap forward until it is supported by an auxiliary roller 9 which is held in a raised positon by fluid pressure. The spool conveying device 20 in its ejecting movement carries an empty spool P to a position between the shafts 43 which then close upon it. In its earlier passage along the conveying device 20 the spool P<SP>1</SP> is wetted so that fibres will adhere. Meanwhile, the flow of material to the still rotating lap roll is stopped at guide plate 58 by the temporary clamping action of a nipper plate 60 to sever the lap. Empty spools are released from a magazine 18 under the influence of fluid pressure in a cylinder 36 which controls spool stops 22, 24. A spring-urged plate 40 pivoted at the end of the spool conveying device 20 holds empty spool P<SP>1</SP> until the spool is drawn downwards by the arms 2 when the plate 40 is pulled aside by the descending spool. Provision may be made for manual operation. Spool magazine 18 is equipped with a microswitch for sounding an alarm when the magazine is empty.
