Abstract

1,024,529. Reciprocating spray pumps. DE VILBLISS CO. Jan. 12, 1965 [Feb. 10, 1964], No. 1326/65. Heading F1A. In the upper position of a plunger rod 18 of a spray pump passages 34 in the piston 16 which communicate with a central passage 31 and the outlet nozzle 21, are closed by the cylinder wall whereby leakage from the container is prevented. On depression of the rod the passages open to a groove 36 in the cylinder wall and a mixture of air and liquid is discharged from the chamber 35. On upward movement of the rod air is drawn in through the nozzle 21 and liquid through the valve 41 until the passages 34 are closed by the cylinder wall, after which only liquid is drawn in through the valve 41. When the plunger is depressed air may flow into the container through an opening 43 sealed by the piston in its upper position. The air/liquid ratio may be varied by selecting the length of the lower band of the piston 16.
