Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1023781/C2/1> and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R2 represents an alkyl or aryl group and R3 represents one of the groups <FORM:1023781/C2/2> or <FORM:1023781/C2/3> wherein R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aralkyl, phenacyl or acylalkyl group, and the preparation thereof by hydrogenation of the corresponding pyridylethyl compound or an acid addition salt thereof. Compounds of the Formula I wherein R4 represents other than a hydrogen atom may be prepared by treating compounds, wherein R4 represents a hydrogen atom, with the appropriate halide. 1 - R1 - 2 - R2 - 3 - Pyridylethylindoles may be prepared by heating, in acetic acid, the corresponding 2- or 1,2-substituted indole with the corresponding 2- or 4-vinylpyridine. Therapeutic compositions with spasmolytic properties, in the form of solutions or creams, lotions or pastes for parenteral or topical application, comprise compounds of the Formula I or their acid addition salts together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
