Abstract

1,023,023. Spraying. BUTTERWORTH SYSTEM Inc. Sept. 27, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 36958/62. Heading B2F. In tank-cleaning apparatus in which liquid is supplied by a pipe 3 to a spray head 1, adapted to rotate in a horizontal plane about the axis of pipe 3, and issues through nozzles 9 which rotate about a horizontal axis, the rotations being caused by the pressure of the liquid supply, speed regulation is effected by coupling the nozzles to a driven member 8 adapted to be driven in opposition to the nozzles, by flow of liquid through the by-pass 31, the amount of liquid flowing through the by-pass being varied to maintain the speed constant. The delivery stream may effect the rotation by a motor but as shown rotation is effected by the reaction of jets leaving the nozzles. As shown, the driven member 8 is directly connected to the nozzles but it may be coupled thereto through gearing. The amount of liquid flowing through the by-pass is controlled by a rotary valve 7 which as shown is under manual control but may be automatically controlled either by a governor driven by the nozzles or in accordance with the difference in pressure between the main liquid stream 32 and the by-pass 31.
