Abstract
1,021,874. Cooling granular material. NATIONAL ENGINEERING CO., OF CANADA, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1962 [Oct. 30, 1961], No. 40674/62. Heading F4U. Apparatus for cooling granular material such as foundry sand comprises a container 10 within which the material to be treated is mixed and guided, as by rollers 16 and guide plates into the path of air jets emanating from a plenum chamber 22 arranged around the container and having a blower 24 connected to it, a plurality of nozzles 30 directed against the mass of material on the bottom of the container and in communication with the chamber 22, and means 36 for the upward extraction of air from the container. As shown, the container is cylindrical and the nozzles 30 extend inwardly therefrom in a direction slightly inclined to the tangential and in an opposite direction to the circulatory movement of the material 20. The air is exhausted upwards through hood 34 by fan 36 at a velocity insufficient to entrain any particles of material. In a modification, the nozzles may be radial.
