Abstract
1,018,598. Portable engines. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Sept. 10, 1964 [Sept. 14, 1963], No. 37060/64. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F1] In an I.C. engine-driven generator set in which the cooling and combustion air intake 7, 8 is directly above the generator 2, air filter 11 is disposed on one side of the set so as to be accessible from above and a lubricant oil filter and fuel filter are disposed on the other side of the set. A diesel engine 1 drives the three-phase A.C. or direct-current generator 2 through a resilient coupling and/or gearing and also drives a fan in casing 4 in front of a cooling-water radiator 3. The generator driving wheel in casing 5 has cooling-air vanes which draw air through openings 8 and pipes 9. Heated air from the generator passes through pipe 10 to trunking 6. through which cooling air passes to radiator 3 and combustion air passes to pipe 13, filter 11 and inlet manifold 12. Engine exhaust gas passes through silencer 16 and pipe 17 to a vertical air passage 24 formed by partitions 23b, 23c through which air flowing through the whole set is drawn upwardly to cool the exhaust pipe. Rectifiers and a second cable junction box are located on the side not shown in the Figure. Housing 23 may be arranged to be lifted off or provided with a lid which may include a filter or grid 25.
