Abstract
1,018,228. Air-heating stoves; heat exchange elements. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Aug. 27, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 33856/63. Heading F4S. A tubular heat exchanger, for use with high temperature fluids, having longitudinally extending fins containing narrow radial slots to prevent distortion when heated, comprises inner and outer circular tubes 20, 10 with channel-shaped fin members 21, in the annular space 19 between the tubes, fixed along substantially their entire length to the inner tube and extending to near the outer tube. Combustion gases from a gaseous or liquid fuel burner 24 pass through the inner tube 20 to discharge through a stack 29. Air to be heated passes along the space 19 from inlet 11 to exit 12, and plates 22, 23 blocking the annular space at either end. The outer tube 10 has an expansion joint 13 and is mounted on a fixed support 14 and movable supports 15, 16, 17. In another embodiment heat exchangers each comprising inner and outer rectangular tubes, with fins as described above, fixed to the outer tube are suspended in banks in a recuperator chamber through which hot gases pass. Air to be heated passes down the inner tubes and up through the space between the tubes. Circular tubes may be used in which the fin members may be attached to the inner or outer tubes or both (Fig. 10).
