Abstract
In a process for the production of fired zinc containing coatings on a shaped ceramic or metallic substrate, a boron free and alkaline earth free glaze comprising-by weight calculated as oxides-35 to 80% silicon dioxide, 1 to 45% of one or several zinc compounds and 1 to 30% of one or several alkali metal compounds, the balance, if any, consisting of other compatible constituents, is applied to the substrate and fired in known manner. 1 to 35% aluminium compounds, 1 to 25% zirconium and/or tin compounds, 1 to 20% titanium and/or cerium compounds, all calculated as oxides, and 1 to 15% fluorine compounds calculated as fluorine may be added to the glaze mixture.
