Abstract

The road-holding or non-skid properties of vehicle tyres comprising carbon black and polymers of butadiene with or without natural or synthetic rubber, are improved by adding to the vulcanization mixture before vulcanization from 5 to 30 parts of finely-divided surfaceactive silica and/or silicate fillers per 100 parts elastomer. The vulcanization mix may contain 20 to 70 parts carbon black and 30 to 60 parts oil, both per 100 elastomers, while the silica used may have a primary particle size of from 0.01 to 0.1 micron and a specific surface area of from 100 to 300 m2/g.
