Abstract

The invention comprises N-methylpiperidyl-(4) veratrate and its acid addition salts, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, together with a carrier, and their preparation by reacting veratroyl chloride with N-methylpiperidin-4-ol or a hydrohalide thereof, optionally followed by conversion to the free base or a different acid addition salt. These compounds stimulate breathing.
