1,008,798. Drag line scrapers. ETABLISSEMENTS R. PONGE & CIE. Dec. 27, 1962 [Jan. 3, 1962], No. 48669/62. Heading B8E. A scraper for moving piles of aggregates 3, 3<SP>1</SP> from stored areas 9, 9<SP>1</SP> up to a wall comprises at least one bucket 4, 4<SP>1</SP> drawn by a rope 5, 51 driven in opposite direction by drums 12, 12<SP>1</SP> on a hoist. A rope 5, 5<SP>1</SP> passes over pulleys 6, 6<SP>1</SP> mounted on a platform 11, and able to swing about a vertical axis, and pulleys 7, 7<SP>1</SP> mounted on carriages 13, 13<SP>1</SP> movable along a rail 14. The arrangement is such that variations in the tensions in the rope 5, 5<SP>1</SP> cause the carriages 13, 13<SP>1</SP> to move backwards and forwards between stops 38, 38<SP>1</SP> respectively so that the bucket 4 scrapes progressively over the whole storage areas 9, 91. Each carriage 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, comprises a frame 15 mounting runners 16, 161 and rollers 17, 171 guiding and supporting it on the rail 14 and runners 19, 19<SP>1</SP> engaging a cable 18. The pulleys 7, 7<SP>1</SP> are linked by a member 35 and a parallelogram linkage 33, 33<SP>1</SP>, 30, 30<SP>1</SP> to a split sleeve 20 having frictional surfaces which are normally engaged by rings 22, 22<SP>1</SP> due to the force of springs 36, 36<SP>1</SP> acting on the parallelogram linkage. When the tension in the ropes 5, 5<SP>1</SP> increases as when its direction of movement changes or it contacts the pile 3, 3<SP>1</SP> the springs 36, 36 are extended and the grip of the rolls 22, 22<SP>1</SP> on the sleeve is removed. Due to the component of the force a spring 27 the carriage is moved in the direction 39 before the springs 36, 36<SP>1</SP> restore to the initial position and the sleeve 20 is again gripped. When tension subsequently reduces a similar movement occurs due to the action of the springs 36, 36<SP>1</SP> on the links 30, 301. When a stop 38, 38<SP>1</SP> is reached it contacts the lever 26 to move it over a dead-centre position so that the spring 27 is effective to move the carriage in the opposite direction. In alternative constructions referred to separate drawing ropes may be provided, the pivotal return pulley systems 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and the rail 14 may be omitted while the hand lever 26 may be operated manually. Different arrangements of the split sleeves 20 and the rings 22 are also described.
