Abstract
1,006,927. Deternining moisture content. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Jan. 9, 1962 [Oct. 25,1960), No. 36605/60. Heading G1N. The free moisture in fine coal on a conveyer is measured by a circuit including four electrodes 10, 11,15,16, Fig. 1, transverse to the direction of motion, power being applied to the two outer electrodes 15,16, and a voltmeter being connected across the inner pair 10,11. In a modification Fig. 2 an armature pointer 22 indicating directly the resistance of the coal is controlled by a solenoid 21 carrying the current through the outer electrodes, and a solenoid 20 carrying a current proportional to the voltage across electrodes 10, 11. An electrode 10, Fig. 3, is pivotally mounted on a bar 24 itself pivoted at 26 and counterbalanced by a weight 28. A spring 25 provides the electrode with resilience against large lumps, and wings 23 which are adjustable in a slot predetermine the depth of electrode penetration.
