Abstract

1,006,603. Screw jacks. METALLIFACTURE Ltd. Feb. 20, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 11919/61. Heading B8J. In a bipod jack having a screw 4, rotation of which raises and lowers the lifting member (not shown), the actuating nut 1 is mounted on the screw by means permitting universal movement of the nut with respect to the screw. As shown, a pin 3 is secured to and extends transversely of the nut, which has an internal bore 2, and passes through an aperture 7 of opposed conical form in the screw 4 so that the pin, together with the nut, can tilt between the faces 8 of the aperture 7 and the nut can also rotate about the axis of the pin. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the pin is fixed within the screw and engages in holes of greater diameter than that of the pin in the sides of the nut.
