Abstract

A tufted carpet comprises a layer of elastomeric or foamed polymeric material, for example rubber or synthetic polymer, such as in the form of a resilient solid foam, covering at least in part the face of the backing fabric nearest the pile. The layer may have been applied as a liquid through the backing fabric, or it may be in discontinuous form, for example, in the form of strips parallel to the warp and alternating with the tufts. Alternatively, discrete particles may be used, which may be sandwiched between two fabrics. The tufts may be anchored by a locking medium applied over the backs of the tufts, and there may be a further layer of resilient material applied to the back of the backing fabric. The backing fabric may have missing warp threads.ALSO:A tufted carpet comprises a layer of elastomeric or foamed polymeric material, for example rubber or synthetic polymer, such as in the form of a resilient solid foam, covering at least in part the face of the backing fabric nearest the pile. The layer may have been applied as discrete particles or as a liquid through the backing fabric, or it may be in discontinuous form, for example, in the form of strips parallel to the warp and alternating with the tufts. the tufts may be anchored by a locking medium applied over the backs of the tufts, and there may be a further layer of resilient material applied to the back of the backing fabric. The backing fabric may have missing warp threads or may be a knitted fabric.
