Abstract

A coating composition (Example 2) comprises polyvinyl chloride, phenol-formaldehyde resin, chromium oxide, butyl oleate, chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon, tetralin, decalin and sulphur-containing organic tin stabilizer.ALSO:Substrates are coated with a polyvinyl chloride composition containing one or more of the following additives, viz. acrylic acid and methacrylic acid esters, allyl-melamine resins, isocyanates, epoxy resins, unsaturated glycols, etherified urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins, hardenable etherified phenol-formaldehyde resins and ketone resins, and then heated to 210 DEG C. or above. Substrates which may be coated include iron, aluminium, copper, brass, tiles, wire baskets, wire mesh, office machines and traffic signs. The composition may be applied as a solution, dispersion or dry mix, by spraying, dipping, spreading, casting, rolling or electrostatic methods. Other compounds mentioned are titanium dioxide, chromium oxide, iron oxide, octyl stearate, butyl oleate, chlorodiphenyl resin, decalin, tetralin, naphtha, dinonyl phthalate, barium-cadmium stabilizer, and sulphur containing organic tin stabilizer.
