Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formulae <FORM:1005728/C2/1> and <FORM:1005728/C2/2> (wherein <FORM:1005728/C2/3> represents an unsubstituted or methyl-substituted 1, o -alkyleneimino ring containing 6 to 8 ring carbon atoms, A represents a 1,2-ethylene, 1,2-, 2,3- or 1,3-propylene radical, R1 represents a C1- 4 alkyl radical, and n and m each represents 1 or 2) and acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their preparation by (a) reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1005728/C2/4> or <FORM:1005728/C2/5> or an acid addition salt thereof with S-methyl-2-isothiosemicarbazide or a salt thereof, or (b) reducing a compound of the formula <FORM:1005728/C2/6> or <FORM:1005728/C2/7> or an acid addition salt thereof, optionally followed in either case by conversion to the free base or an acid addition salt. 2 - (41 - Methylpiperazino)ethylamine is prepared from N-methylpiperazine, via 4-methylpiperazinoacetonitrile. The compounds of the invention are useful in the treatment of hypertensive conditions and functional peripheral vascular diseases, and may be administered enterally (e.g. orally) or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. tablets, dragees, capsules, solutions, suspensions and emulsions) containing them, with or without other (unspecified) active ingredients, together with a carrier.
