Abstract
1,004,367. Bearings. F. HURTH and H. HURTH. April 22, 1964 [June 10, 1963], No. 16629/64. Heading F2A. [Also in Division B3] A gear-finishing machine comprises a rotary tool 15, a tool- or work-slide 19 which can be fed against a fixed or movable stop 27, and switch means associated with the stop and responsive to thrust. The work-gear 26 is carried by stocks which may be adjustably mounted. The slide 19 is moved upwardly, by springs 38 or fluidpressure means, as limited by the cam 27 on a shaft 28 which also carries switch-controlling cams 33, 34. One end of the shaft 28 is carried in a bearing 303, Fig. 3, in a box 302 which is mounted by a wedge or balls 304 in the machine frame 10. When a load occurs on the roller 27, a magneto-elastic cell 305 undergoes compression causing a change in inductance to operate a pulse-generator 312 when a difference voltage exist between rectifier bridges 321, 322. A variable resistor 316 controls the sensitivity of the circuit and a heating device 310 compensates for temperature fluctuations. In operation, the work feed is commenced, the tool is rotated, and the cam 27 is rotated. The cam 27 reaches the point at which maximum feed of the work is permitted, before the gearfinishing operation is complete. The cam is therefore stopped until the roller 37 is able to contact it again. During this time, latches 302A, preventing movement of the block 302, are released and the electrical circuit is closed by a switch 322. As soon as the pressure between the roller 37 and the cam 27 is sufficient, the generator 312 produces a pulse, the cam is re-started and the work, after a short dwell, is withdrawn first slowly and then rapidly. Fluid-pressure devices or other types of electric switches may be used to sense the pressures. Specifications 991,194 and 991,195 are referred to.
