Abstract

1,250,294. Presses. BECORIT GRUBENAUSBAU G.m.b.H. 8 April, 1970 [12 April, 1969], No. 16634/70. Heading B3H. [Also in Divisions B4-B5 and H2] A screw press has an electric motor drive with a pair of rotors 11, 12, one of which is connected to a screw 2 to move a non-rotatable slide 5 with a nut 4 threaded on the screw. The rotors are inductively coupled together by short circuiting the inner rotor 11 to effect a down stroke. The outer rotor 12 comprises a magnet rotatably mounted in the motor casing 14. The slide 5 carries an upper tool 6. In operation the motor is energized to move the rotors in opposite directions but the inner rotor 11 is prevented from rotation by a stop so that the outer rotor 12 acquires considerable inertia. The inner rotor is then short-circuited and inductively coupled for rotation with the outer rotor to bring the tools 6, 10 together. The screw spindle 2 has a small degree of axial freedom and upon the tool 6 hitting the workpiece the spindle is axially displaced to open a switch 26 to stop the short circuit. The short circuit is initiated by a thyristor (28), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is triggered by pulses from a generator (30). At the end of the stroke the rotors are urged in opposite directions to effect the upward stroke. At the end of the upward stroke the inner rotor 11 is stopped by the stop and the outer rotor 12 accelerated again. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the outer rotor 112 is driven by a three-phase motor 150. The inductive coupling between the rotors is still used but the upward stroke is effected by a spring (not shown). The thyristor 128, Fig. 5, to effect the short circuit in the inner rotor 111 may be triggered remotely by a magnet 161 which induces voltage in a coil 160 or by a magnet 172 which influences a reed relay switch 171. In a third embodiment, Figs. 7-9 (not shown), the motor is a three-phase motor with a short circuited or squirrel cage inner rotor (211). The outer rotor (212) is connectable to either a three-phase alternating voltage or a D.C. voltage. Initially the switch (290) is closed to supply the alternating voltage. When the outer rotor reaches its peak speed it is connected to the D.C. voltage to inductively couple it to the inner rotor (211). The upward stroke is effected by a spring (not shown).
