Abstract

1,002,846. Cylinder heads. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Feb. 24, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 7797/63. Heading FIB. A cylinder head is divided into two parts 1, 2, such that the exhaust passages 5 are formed wholly in the part 2 whilst the inlet passages 6 are formed partly in the part 2 and partly in the part 1 in which is also formed an inlet manifold 15 running the length of the head. The head portions 1, 2, are formed by die casting, the manifold 15 and a coolant passage 18 tapering inwardly from both ends towards the middle of the head so that they can be formed by using tapered metal cores. Similarly the portions 6, 14, Fig. 2, and 5, 10, Fig. 3, of the exhaust passage taper towards their junction and the remaining coolant spares 17, 22, and push rod space 20 are tapered to permit the use of tapered metal cores in the casting.
