The main patent describes an adjustable stock device comprising essentially a stock proper in the longitudinal bore of which slid a rod integral with the weapon, the locking of the rod relative to the stock being ensured by a locking device. which, in the embodiment described, included an intermediate tube cut out of a longitudinal window suitable for cooperating with a pin projecting radially from the rod and capable of being engaged in notches cut in at least one of the edges of the window under the effect of the rotation of the tube on itself inside the butt.

The present addition relates to a device of the same type, but in which the locking is carried out by means of a bolt carried slidingly by the butt and capable of engaging in depressions dug in a part integral with the rod, without the need to provide an intermediate tube.

In the preferred embodiment, the part comprising the depressions is constituted by a lower radial rib integral with the rod and which slides in a corresponding groove in the housing of the butt intended to receive said rod, thus ensuring the respective angular position of the rod. butt and weapon. The aforementioned rib preferably itself comprises a longitudinal groove in the bottom of which the depressions are hollowed out. Thus, by releasing the bolt only partially, it is possible to move the stock relative to the rod, but without being able to completely remove the latter from the stock, whereas, on the contrary, when the bolt is completely removed, the disassembly becomes possible.

The appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the addition, the characteristics that it presents and the advantages that it is likely to provide:

Figure 1 is a side view with partial section of an adjustable butt device according to the addition, assumed to be in the contracted position, the position of greatest length being shown schematically in broken lines;

Figure 2 is a section which reproduces part of Figure 1, but showing the parts in the position of incomplete removal of the bolt;

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, but the bolt is assumed to be completely removed.

The adjustable butt device 10 shown in the appended drawing comprises a body or proper butt 12, mounted to slide longitudinally on a fixed member or rod 14, itself fixed by appropriate means to the receiving part or other part of the weapon, not shown, so as to extend towards the rear in a tubular part or housing 16 of the butt 12. The rod 14 has a radial rib 18, of relatively large length, yes protrudes outwards towards the bottom . This rib 18 has on its underside a recess of variable depth, consisting t> ar a groove 20 and r> ar two denres-sion cvlindricrues 22 and 24. These latter extend further inward ave the groove 20 and they < = nnt located "at the ends of it. such crumbs defined by the front and rear walls 26 and 28 of said groove.

To enable the butt 12 to be slidably mounted on the rod 14, the housing 16 of this n-osse is hollowed out with a blind longitudinal bore 30 which opens in the direction

forward. The rib 18 of the rod 14 is received in a groove 32 provided in the bottom of the bore of the housing 16, so as to avoid any angular movement between said rod and the butt, while allowing relative displacement in the longitudinal direction.

To provide the user of the weapon with an adequate reach surface, there is provided a plate 34 supported in part by a thin web 36 integral with the lower edge of the housing 16 of the device, this web going up from the plate. 34. The veil 36 is connected to a part 38 integral with the bottom of the housing and located thereon approximately midway between the ends of the butt 12. Part 38 preferably has a flat lower face 40 and it is perforated. a vertical bore 42 which opens into the groove 32.

To lock the butt 12 against any sliding movement relative to the rod 14, a bolt 44 is provided, capable of moving back and forth in the bore 42, which comprises a portion 46 to diameter reduced in order to achieve an annular shoulder 48 which serves as a seat for one end of a compression spring 50 mounted on the rod or tail 52 of the bolt 44. The opposite end of the spring 50 bears against the cylindrical head 54 with a larger diameter of the bolt 44 in order to continuously urge the latter towards its raised position in which said head 54 is housed in one of the depressions 22, 24 to positively lock the butt 12 relative to the rod 14.

The depressions 22, 24 can receive the head 54 of the bolt 44 without appreciable play, in order to minimize the possible longitudinal play between the rod 14 and the stick 12 when said bolt is in its high position. The head 54 is of sufficient length to extend well into the bore 42 when it is housed in one of the depressions 22, 24; in this way any force tending to move the stick 12 relative to the bore comes up against the reaction opposed by the bolt 44, the shear stress being transmitted over the entire diameter of the head 54 in order to increase the mechanical resistance of the locking mechanism.

To enable the bolt 44 to be released from the rod 14, a hand lever 56 has been provided which enables it to be erased. This lever 56 has a U-shaped profile in section; it comprises an articulated front part 58 and a rear part 60 suitable for forming a handle, the latter being oriented in the direction of the bottom following an obliquity tpii corresponds to that of the veil 36. Towards the middle of the length of the articulated part 58 it is provided an opening 62 of relatively large diameter compared to that of the crown 52 of the bolt 44, said crack projecting from the butt 12 in the direction of the outside through the aforementioned small diameter part 46 in which it slides with reduced clearance in view to help maintain the bolt in the axis of the bore 42.

In Figure 1 there is shown the lever 56 with its rear part or handle 60 spaced from the extension 36 of the butt 12. The articulated part 58 of said lever is mounted on the projecting end of the shank 52 of the bolt and it is retained on that -Here by means of a nut 64 screwed onto this rod. When the head 54 of the bolt 44 is in the high position, the articulated part 58 of the lever is retained in contact with the flat lower face 40 of the part 38 of the housing by the reaction of the spring 50.

As shown, the bottom of the U-shaped profile of the lever 56 comprises a transverse notch 66 which extends on its upper face at the junction between the two parts 58 and 60, to define a rear edge 68 on the articulated part 58. This edge rear 68 is closer to the opening 62 than the front edge 70 of said part 58. The two edges 68 and 70 define pivot axes around which the lever can be rotated in one direction and in the other with respect to the butt in order to release the bolt 44.

More precisely when the handle 60 is pushed against the butt 12, the part 38 of the housing 16 constitutes a fulcrum for the rear edge 68 of the lever, thus allowing the nut 64 and the bolt 44 to be moved downwards. against the reaction of the spring 50 to an extent limited by the handle 12 itself which then constitutes a stop to ensure the supply of the bolt 44 to the partially withdrawn position shown in FIG. 2. For this position of the bolt, the head 54 is completely free from the depressions 22, 24, but it remains engaged in the groove 20. The stock 12 is then free to slide on the rod 14 in order to allow the length of the weapon to be varied, while eliminating any possibility of complete disassembly of this stock relative to the rod, given that the head 54 of the bolt can then abut against the front and rear walls 26 and 28 of the groove.

After one of the depressions 22, 24 has been brought in line with the bore 42 and then the lever 56 has been released, the bolt 44 is locked with the rod 14 under the effect of the reaction of the spring 50. Although only two depressions have been shown to lock the butt 12 in a contracted position and in an extended position, shown diagrammatically in broken lines in FIG. 1, it is understood that it is possible to do so. provide others with a view to producing a weapon yes has a large number of adjustment positions suitable for users of different sizes.

When it is desired to disassemble the stock device 10, the handle 60 is simply pulled away from the stock 12, thus causing the lever 56 to pivot around its front edge 70 and in

consequently lowering the bolt 44 to an extent which is no longer limited only by the dimensions of the spring 50 and by the length of the bore 42. The displacement amplitude of the locking bolt is such that the head 54 thereof This is then erased in the bore 42 relative to the groove, as shown in FIG. 3. The stick 12 is thus completely released and can be immediately released from the rod 14.

To facilitate assembly and disassembly, an opening 72 located on the axis of the bore 42 is provided in the top of the butt 12. In this way, when it is desired to mount the device, the spring 50 and the bolt 44 in the bore 42 through this opening 72, after which the lever 56 is mounted on the projecting end of the shank 52 of the bolt and the nut 64 is screwed to hold the parts in position.

We can then move the lever 56 of the stick 12 to bring the bolt 44 to its fully retracted position in order to allow the stick to be mounted on the rod 14. The lever is then released so that the bolt 14 can go up in the rod. one of the depressions 22, 24 and the nut 64 is adjusted so that it bears flat against the articulated part 58 of the lever, the latter then being applied against the flat lower face 40 of the part 38 of the housing.

Thanks to the arrangement described above, small manufacturing errors or tolerances do not prevent the bolt 4 from being brought to its partially retracted position when the handle 60 of the lever 56 is applied in contact with the butt 12. If the bolt 44 does not then release the rod 14, it can be lowered by screwing the nut 64 until said bolt is clearly out of the creu-sure. The nut 64 can then be locked in the adjustment position thus obtained by means of a pin 74. For this purpose, the projecting end of the tail 52 of the bolt 44 is preferably drilled in advance so as to that we have a transverse hole capable of corresponding to a recess 76 cut in the nut 64 to receive the pin 74, thus locking this nut on the tail.

The adjustable stock device according to the addition can thus be operated by hand to allow the easy and rapid adaptation of the length of the weapon to the size of the user, or to ensure its complete disassembly, one and - The other solution depending on the direction of tilting of the lever 56 relative to the butt. A weapon incorporating the addition is easy to dismantle on site; it can be easily shopped and transported, and it adapts in service to users of different sizes.

It must also be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the scope of the addition, from which one would not escape by replacing the details of execution described. by all other equivalents.

ABSTRACT

Variant of the adjustable stock device according to the main patent, in which the locking of the rod integral with the weapon with respect to the stock proper where this rod is engaged, is achieved by means of a bolt carried by sliding by the butt and capable of engaging in depressions hollowed out in a part integral with the rod, without it being necessary to provide an intermediate tube, said variant also being able to have the other characteristics below, separately or in combination :

1 ° The part comprising the depressions is constituted by a lower radial rib secured to the rod and which slides in a corresponding groove in the housing of the stock, thus ensuring the maintenance of the respective angular position of the stock and of the weapon;

2 ° The rib provided for under 1 ° comprises a longitudinal groove in the bottom of which the depressions are hollowed out, this groove not opening out at the rear of the rib;

3 ° Means are provided to control the bolt so as to either release it from the depressions only by leaving it still engaged in the groove provided under 2 °, so that the stock can be moved relative to the weapon, but not removed of the rod, or to release it both from the depressions and from the groove so that disassembly is possible;

4 ° The bolt is controlled by a lever which tilts partially when it is actuated in one direction and fully if it is operated in the other;

5 ° The lever provided under 4 ° has two edges suitable for forming a fulcrum for the tilting in one direction and the other respectively, this tilting being limited in one direction by the stop of the lever against the butt;

6 ° The bolt is mounted to slide vertically in the stock and it is integral with a tail which protrudes below it to pass through the lever between its two support points, this tail receiving an adjustable nut against which the lever acts against a spring mounted on the tail to tend to engage the bolt in the depressions;

7 ° The nut and the bolt shank are suitably perforated to receive a transverse pin which allows the nut to be locked in the exact position of adjustment desired.
