Abstract

For each row of consecutive shingles of the roofing, the header is constituted from several shingles (5a..5n) located in a stack so that the ends of the shingles are superposed. The last shingle of the row (6n) forming part of the roofing, is supported on the upper shingle (5a) of the stack, whilst the lower shingle (5n) of the stack forming the header is supported on the rafter (2) underneath the roofing.

Description

SHORELINE CLADDING

  The present invention relates to a roof with

shore cladding.

  In shingle roofs of the prior art, the shingles of the lower row come to rest on a fascia board, the assembly producing an unsightly effect to the eye and an unfinished and discontinuous appearance. The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art proposing a cladding roof of new design, having a

aesthetic appearance.

  According to the invention, this cladding roof comprises, for each row of shingles, an edge device 15 consisting of a plurality of shingles arranged in a stack such that a number of shingles come in superposition relationship, the last shingle of the row forming part of the roof, coming to bear on the upper shingle of the stack, while the lower shingle of the stack forming the

  edge device comes to rest on the underlying chevron.

  The invention is also remarkable for the following characteristic points:

  the last shingle of the stack rests on the chevron by means of a batten 4a.

  the lower shingle of the row of roofs rests on the lower face of its most bevelled portion on the underlying planking, while the shingle underlying said lower shingle of the roof 30 comes to bear on the lower face of the bevelled part of the underlying shingle by means of a strip 4a, the latter being substantially in superposition relation with a counter-strip 4b, this strip resting on the planking, a similar arrangement being provided between the two shingles underlying the roof, while the other underlying shingles come to rest on each other and on

  battens arranged in a conventional manner on the planking.

  The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of an embodiment which is not

  limiting the roof of the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which is a partial sectional view of the shingle edge device of the invention.

  In the single drawing figure a series of shingles 6 is shown, the lower shingle 6n resting on a stack of edge shingles 5 by means of a strip 4a, while the lower shingle 5n of the edge stack is secured by the batten 4a to the rafter 2. By its upper end, the lower shingle 15n of the roof row rests on the shuttering device 3 by means of a batten 4b. The underlying shingle 6b is secured to the lower shingle 6a by means of a counter-batten 4b and rests at its upper end on the leveling device 3 by means of a cooperating batten 4c.

  The roof frame elements, specified above, are secured to each other by conventional techniques well known to those skilled in the art,

  Thus are resolved the problems of continuity and aesthetics posed by the design of edge devices of the prior art in shingle roofs,

  by virtue of a stack of edges made up of a number of shingles, the upper shingle being secured to the last shingle of the roof row, while the lower shingle of the stack is supported on a sheathing device.

Claims (4)

  1. Shingle roof, characterized in that, for 5 each row of consecutive shingles of the roof, the edge device consists of a plurality of shingles (5a ... 5n), arranged in a stack such that the ends external of the shingles come in superposition relation, the last shingle of the row (6n), 10 forming a part of the roof, coming to bear on the upper shingle (5a) of the stack, while the lower shingle (5n) of the stack forming the edge device comes to bear on the rafter (2) underlying the roof.   2. Shingle roof according to claim 1, characterized in that the last shingle of the stack (5n) forming the edge device rests on the rafter   (2) via a batten (4a).   3. Roof according to any one of claims 20 1 and 2, characterized in that the lower shingle (6a)   of the roof row rests on the inner face of its outermost part on the underlying planking (3), the shingle underlying said lower shingle comes to bear on the upper face of the underlying shingle by means of a batten (4a), the latter being substantially in superposition relation with a counter-batten (4b), this batten (4a) resting on the battens (3), a similar arrangement being provided between the two underlying shingles of the roofing while the other underlying shingles come to bear on one another and on the corresponding battens   secured to the planking (3) in a conventional manner.
