Abstract

The cylinder (2), containing e.g. CO2, is coaxially located within the can (9), inside a heat exchanger (4) of very thin metal sheet, repeatedly folded, concertina-style, forming a hollow sealed cylinder, star-like in cross-section, then ends being closed by circular cappings (8). Though occupying relatively little of the can volume, the exchanger offers a very extensive contact area with the drink. A spacer (7) allows it to be fitted in differently dimensioned cans. To cool the drink, the user presses on the capsule end through the cap top (4). A pin (5) in the base breaks the capsule end seal and the gas rapidly expands into the heat exchanger at e.g. about 10 degrees Celsius, venting (6) to atmosphere without contacting the drink.
