Abstract

The use of a cosmetic gel for controlling a water-retention phenomenon associated with cellulitis is described, which contains a mixture of glycerylpolymethacrylate or glycerylpolyacrylate and of one or more fluidifying solvents chosen from aliphatic alcohols or glycols such as propylene glycol, butylene glycol, polyethylene glycol and ethoxydiglycol.

Description

"Orange peel" cellulite is the manifestation of a certain metabolic imbalance in the subcutaneous fat cells. It mainly affects women, on the hips and thighs as well as the buttocks. It is mainly associated with localized or non-localized overweight.

The appearance of clinical signs "orange peel" is physiologically accompanied by an increase in the adipose layer, a multiplication and a crosslinking of the collagen fibers of the connective tissue (which sometimes leads to painful manifestations : fibrosis) and water retention in these tissues.

While many cosmetic "slimming" products are offered to combat fat overload (these products claim stimulation of lipolysis, among other things), the particular aspect of water retention which contributes to the swelling of the integuments and therefore to the The macroscopic "cellulitic" aspect has not been discussed much.

In French patent No. 9112722 (publication number 2682296), we have described the use of gels of the "glycerylpoly (meth) acrylate" type, containing glycerin, water and polyacrylate or polymethacrylate made of such so that they have the property of absorbing the surrounding water, of acting on the water activity of a cosmetic formulation, they are therefore so-called "non-drying" gels.

The patented application of these gels concerns their capacity to preserve cosmetic products against microbial contamination by a physical action (deprivation of water) rather than by a biocidal chemical action and therefore to facilitate the formulation of products without chemical preservatives.

The object of this patent is the discovery that these gels are also capable of exercising this activity of capturing water, not only within a cosmetic product, in a formulation, but also at the level of skin cellulite phenomena. . The daily application of the gel by light massage on the sites affected by cellulite makes it possible to decrease its importance and to decrease the volume of the tissue (highlighted by measuring the perimeter of the thigh, the thickness of the layer adipose by ultrasound and NMR imaging).

This effect seems to be due to the absorption capacity of water by the gel, which facilitates its elimination from the connective tissue.

The gels can be used pure or partially diluted. A particular aspect of the patent application concerns the discovery that diluting the gel with a solvent of the ethoxydiglycol type (TRANSCUTOLR, marketed by the Company Laserson) improves the penetration of the gel, and therefore its effectiveness.

At the same time, this solvent removes the sticky and "greasy" character of the gel which facilitates its application and promotes acceptance of the method and the product by the user.

For example, we did the test according to 10 female volunteers chosen on the basis of their apparent cellulite condition participated in the test. On day OJ the diameter of the thighs was measured using a centimeter. The thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer was measured using ultrasound (ultrasound).

For 28 days, the panelists applied product A on one leg (upper leg) and product B on the other leg, with a light massage, twice a day.

After this time, the same parameters (perimeter, thickness of the adipose layer) were measured. Analysis of the results shows that the perimeter of the thighs treated with product A has decreased by 4.5 cm and the thickness of the adipose layer has decreased by 11% (significant at p <0.05).

The variations observed on the legs treated with product B are 1.5 cm and 3% respectively (statistically insignificant values, p> 0.05).

The slimming and "anti-cellulite" effectiveness of these products can be reinforced by the addition of a part of plant extracts with diuretic effect (elderberry, bearberry, orthosiphon, calamus, pilosella, goldenrod, strawberry, horsetail, birch and others) and on the other hand by the incorporation of lipolytic active ingredients such as caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, carnitine, plant extracts with slimming activity (algae, centella asiatica, ivy etc ...), these lists are not exhaustive.

The Gel glycerylpoly (meth) acrylate / TranscutolR mixture can vary in the proportions from 100/0 to 10/90, preferably between 70/30 and 90/10 and must constitute at least 20% by weight of the finished product. The addition of active principles with a diuretic and lipolytic reputation to these mixtures can be made in the proportions usually known to those skilled in the art.

These slimming mixtures can be combined in cosmetic compositions with any other ingredient usually used in cosmetics: extraction and / or synthetic lipids, gelling and viscosifying polymers, surfactants and emulsifiers, water- or fat-soluble active principles, plant extracts, extracts tissues, marine extracts, liposomes, nano-, micro- or macroparticles or -capsules.

The mixtures can be used in any suitable galenical form, used in cosmetics or in dermopharmacy, namely gels, O / W and W / O emulsions, milks, lotions, ointments.
