L'expérience a cependant montré que les opérateurs en maintenance pouvaient par des interventions malheureusement faciles rendrent inopérationnels les moyens détrompeurs à l'endroit de jonction des deux parties du corps du raccord, ce qui pouvait conduire à la fixation d'une partie du raccord propre à un gaz donné sur une autre partie de raccord elle-même propre à un autre gaz donné.
