Abstract

The present invention relates to a stackable packaging carton intended for transport, of the fruit tray type. According to the invention a package obtained from a cut-out and folded cardboard blank is constituted by a bottom 1, two side panels 2, external 8 and internal 10, themselves formed from two panels folded one onto the other, two end panels 3 comprising, under their top surfaces 4, a kind of tunnel 5 formed by the panels 6 and 7, the latter being intended to receive a bar or a rod when the tray is handled. Applications to packaging of fruit for transport.

Description

 The present invention relates to a stackable packaging cardboard intended for transport, of the fruit tray type.

 We already know different fruit trays, in particular by the publication FR 2,144,618 according to which a fruit tray is reinforced by doubling the lateral edges with folded legs penetrating into notches, or by the publication FR 2,043,948 according to which the reinforcement is obtained by gluing folded legs along the blanks, or by publication FR 2,044,362 according to which the free ends of the lateral edges bent at right angles serve as support and reinforcement for the pads.

 All of these solutions intended to improve the mechanical strength of said trays during their transport do not eliminate the damage caused by the strapping for fixing the stacked trays on pallets or racks. In addition to the deformations which they subject to the plates, these straps sometimes deteriorate their content and do not allow their rapid and easy handling. In addition, manual gripping of these stacked cartons is often hazardous.

 The object of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks by a device making it possible to eliminate the strapping, to facilitate the handling and gripping of the fruit trays, while improving their resistance to compression and buckling, and by simplifying their cutting and their mounting.

 According to the present invention, a cardboard box of the fruit tray type consisting of a bottom, two cheeks and two heads with a support area, obtained from a blank of cut and folded cardboard, is characterized by: 'In general that the heads have under their range over their length a kind of tunnel, or slide, intended to receive during manipulations of the tray a bar, or rod, this tunnel constituting a convenient manual gripping means. I1 also results from this arrangement that a bar, a tube or a rod can penetrate the slide to fix, assemble, take or carry the trays without causing contact with their contents.

 Preferably the walls of said tunnel, namely the outer wall, upper wall and inner wall, result from the folding of the same strip of cardboard.

 More preferably, the cheeks consist of an outer wall and an inner wall folded over one another along a double fold line delimiting an upper edge of the cheeks, called the bank.

 In addition, the double wall of the cheeks is extended, after folding to 900, over half of each head to fill the lower part of the space formed between the inner and outer walls of each head and form the fourth wall, or floor, of the tunnel.

 On fiv. 1, a tray of the invention comprises a bottom 1 and four sides; two parallel sides constitute the cheeks 2, and the other two sides constitute the heads 3. Over their entire length, the heads comprise a slide, or tunnel 5.

 The cheeks 2, according to FIG., Are less tall than the heads 3 and their extensions folded back to 900 delimit the entrances to the tunnels 5 situated under the support areas 4 of each of the heads 3.

 Fig.3 is an example of stacking four stacks of trays on a pallet before transport. Rods 30, or bars, are threaded into the tunnels 5 of two plates joined by their cheeks, which on the one hand makes it possible to make these plates integral with one another, and- on the other hand facilitates their fixing on the pallet.

 In the cardboard blank shown in fig.4, with "dashes" of its different folding lines, the central part of the cardboard blank consists of a central area intended to constitute the bottom 1 and extended at each end by a first strip 6 intended to form the external wall of a head, a second strip 4 intended to form the bearing surface of the plates during their stacking and a third strip 7 intended to form the internal wall of the head, this strip 7 comprising at each of its ends a notch 12 in L intended to receive the double wall 8, 9, 10 of the cheeks. The central part is connected to two lateral parts 22, 23 by the fold line 19 which is extended to each of its ends by a cutting line 24, each lateral part 22, 23 comprising a first strip intended to form the external wall 8 of the cheek, a second narrow strip delimited by the folding lines 17 and 18 and intended to form the bank 9 of the cheek, a third strip intended to form the internal wall 10 of the cheek, and comprising at the intersection lines 17, 18 of folding in on themselves of the walls of the cheeks, and lines 14, 15, 16, 16 'of folding at 900 of the double cheek wall, a diamond-shaped light 11 allowing the folding of each cheek extension to 900 on half of each head to occupy the lower part of the space formed between the inner 7 and outer 6 walls of each head. 6, we observe the detail of the folding at 900 of the internal wall 10 of the cheek around the triple fold line 14, 15, folding which has the effect of strengthening the angles of the plate.

 In fig. 5, the constitution of the tunnel 5 is noted, the floor of which is formed by the folding to 900 of the extensions 20 of the double walls 8, 10 of the cheeks 2, said folding being authorized by the light II resulting in the assembly in "miter cut" of the edge elements 9, said extensions each equal to half a head length 3 being inserted between the outer 6 and inner 7 walls of the head to which they are fixed by gluing.

 Although a particular embodiment of a fruit tray according to the invention has been described and represented, it should be understood that the scope of the latter is not limited to this form but that it is extends to any tray or similar packaging made of cardboard or similar material, having the general characteristics set out above.

Claims (2)

1.- Cardboard packaging of the fruit tray type obtained at  from a blank of cardboard cut and folded, said  tray consisting of a bottom (1), two cheeks (2)  and two heads (3) with support surface (4), characteristic  se  in that the heads (3) consist  try under their beach (4) along their length a kind of  tunnel (7), or slide, intended to receive during  handling of the plate a bar, or rod, (30)  (fig.1,2,3) 2.- Packaging according to claim 1, characterized  in that the walls of said tun  nel (5), namely outer wall (6), upper wall  re (4) and inner wall (7), result from folding  of the same strip of cardboard (fig.5) 3.- Packaging according to claim 2, characterized  in that the cheeks (2) are  consisting of an outer wall (8) and a wall  internal (10) folded over each other in a  double fold line defining an upper edge of the  cheeks, said strand (9), (fig. 4 and 5) 4.- Packaging according to claim 3, characterized:  in that the double wall  (8,9,10) of the cheeks is prolonged, after folding to 900 and  for each, on half of each head (3) for  fill the lower part of the space formed between the  inner (7) and outer (6) walls of each head  and form the fourth wall (20), or floor, of the  tunnel (5) (fig.5);  5.- Packaging according to claim 4, characterized  in that the folding to 90 "of each extension of the cheeks is authorized by a diamond-shaped light (11) situated substantially at the intersection of the lines (17,18) of folding on themselves the walls of the cheeks and the lines (14, 15, 16) of folding the double wall of the cheeks to 900. Packaging according to any one of the claims  previous, characterized  in that said blank consists of - a central part consisting of a central area intended to constitute the bottom (1), central part being extended on each side by a first strip (6) intended to form the outer wall of a head, a second narrow strip (4) intended to form the bearing surface a third strip (7) intended to form the internal wall of the head, - two lateral parts (22,23), each of them being connected to the central part by a fold line (19), the fold line being extended at each of its ends by a cut line (24), each side part (22,23) being divided in width by said lines folding (17,18) and in its length, and in the vicinity of each of its ends by a simple folding line (16 ') itself extended by a triple folding line (14,15,16); ; 7.- Packaging according to any one of the claims  previous, characterized  in that the inner wall (7) of the head (3) has at each end a notch (12) in the shape of an "L" having for width the width of the edge (9) and for height the height of the internal face (10) of the cheek, said notch (12) being intended to allow the shoulder of the heads (3) on the cheeks (2) and to allow the embedding and locking of the cheeks (2) against the heads (3) .
