Abstract

The mixts. consist of asphalt or a material for mfg. briquettes, and they are fed into one end of a mixing and drying drum contg. conveyor baffle blades. At one end of the drum is a stationary chamber(5,6) used both for charging the mixt. and for combustion providing hot gases flowing tangentially into the drum and then flowing along a helical path to a combined unloading and exhaust gas outlet chamber at the other end of the drum. The helical stream of gas flows at 90 degrees to the streams of particles in the mixt. deflected by the baffle blades off the drum wall; and the pref. drum contains an axial shaft fitted with a spiral screw or worm aiding the helical flow of the hot gas.
