Abstract

Bulletproof vest or screen involves a panel of metal outside layers of fabric woven from high tensile yarns of e.g. polyamide (opt. aromatic) or glass filaments. Pref. the metal panel is 1-3 mm thick and made of titanium or a strong light alloy and shaped to fit the general gorm of a human body. Pref. the metal panel is backed by 10-30 layers of the strong fabric. The metal panels may be secured over the fabric panels or may be shaped to fit in suitable pockets. The metal panel inhibits the degree of deformation of the fabric when struck by a bullet, preventing injury by 'needle' effects from the deformed fibres.
