Abstract

The locking latch for a vehicle seat belt has a tongued plate (1) attached to one part of the belt, and a housing (2) attached to the other part. The narrow tongued portion has a rectangular hole (12) which is engaged by a latch (2) inside the housing, forming an auxiliary lock in the event of the main lock not being properly shut. The main lock includes two parallel strips (8) which enclose the swinging latch arm (3) between them. This arm carries a tooth (3) which fits into the rectangular hole when fully locked. It also carries a wire spring (15) with an arm extending each side, each with a hooked end engaging a recess in the side of a block (5) held inside the housing. This block has guide slots (14) to hold the tongue in its locked position.
