Abstract

Prefabricated thermally insulating panels used to internally line industrial furnaces have a cruciform frame of steel bar. The rear of the frame has >=2 hanger elements which are detachably supported by brackets attached to the furnace shell. The frame has forward-projecting angle pieces carrying anchors for the hot-face insulating layer. The panels are of the type employing 'stacked' ceramic fibre material made by cutting srips from ceramic fibre blanket and stacking these horizontally or vertically so that the faces f the strips are perpendicular to the furnace wall surface. The panels are light and are easy to handle, transport, install and replace. They are cheap and simple to produce.
