Abstract

The central cable (4) carries an inner spiral (5) of small diameter wire, with a second spiral (6) made from thicker wire and spaced in between the thinner coil. The thin coil maintains the correct pitch on the thick coil. One or two toothed wheels (2) and (3) are placed on either side of the cable with their axes at right angles to the cable. The teeth on the wheels are spaced with semicircular sections to match the spiral on the cable. The cable is drawn in a straight line causes the wheels to rotate. The reverse operation can also be achieved.
